DIY Rosehip Infused Oil

Sharing my latest herbal beauty recipe with you! Rosehips are a great beginner foraging project and infusing them with an oil of choice creates a luxurious and magical oil perfect for nourishing skin and hair!

Recipe Instructions:

  1. Separate any stems and sepals (the little dead leaves sticking out opposite of the stems) from your foraged rosehips. Remove any bruised, moldy or otherwise not up to quality hips.

  2. Lay the rosehips out in a single layer on a baking sheet or towel somewhere they can dry for at least a week. Ruffle the hips and roll them around occasionally while they dry to speed up the process.

  3. When the hips are hard and wrinkly and completely dry, fill a jar 1/2 to 2/3 full with the fruits.

  4. Pour your oil of choice (I used a combination of argan and jojoba, I have also used olive oil in the past) over the hips until the jar is full.

  5. Place the jar in a cool or room temperature place away from direct sunlight for one month or one full moon cycle (full moon to full moon or new moon to new moon). If you want to add some moon magic you can leave the jar out in the moonlight of the full moon whenever that falls in the timeline of your infusion.

  6. Using a mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the oil from the hips into a liquid measuring cup so you can pour it into smaller containers or straight into your containers of choice using a funnel.

  7. I suggest repurposing a dropper or using a container with a very small opening so you can get a few drops out at a time. This oil is extremely moisturizing and luxurious so a little goes a long way!
